Summary
Twelfth Night begins with the Fool, Feste and Duke Orsino. The duke is head-over-heels for the lovely Lady Olivia. He tells the fool to continue on with his playing as he takes pity on himself. Olivia refuses to give her hand in marriage for seven years, while in she mourning of her brother. Next, Viola has been shipwrecked and landed up in Illyria, rule by Orsino. The sea captain explains how Orsino is seeking for Olivia. Viola wishes to serve Olivia, but she knows it would be impossible, so in return she dresses as a man to go and serve the Duke. Sir Toby and Sir Andrew are introduced to the play. Toby pressures Andrew to court with Olivia, only for his benefit. Once Andrew is denied by her, he decides to leave until Toby convinces him to stay a month longer. Viola has disguised herself very and gave herself the name, Cesario. Cesario has gained favor in the sight of the Duke. She has gained his trust and he has sent her off to confess his for Olivia, although Viola has affection towards the Duke herself.
